The BIND command “rndc notify” is used to cause the DNS master to announce to its slaves that the zone configuration has been updated, and to send the new zone data for them to update themselves accordingly. The error that occurred was that when invoking the “rndc notify” command, the following error is given:
# rndc notify rndc: 'notify' failed: unexpected end of input
The “unexpected end of input” it’s referring to is not something in the configuration file, but rather then executed command itself. It’s expecting another argument – the zone to be notified about. This is mentioned in the man page.
# rndc notify example.com
Also, don’t forget to update the “serial” number in the named.conf
